| Because of the very transparent air and the fact that the Sun set over a hard mountain ridge rather than a softer horizon of trees or cloud, a very good green flash was visible this evening. In fact, green glimmers began at the sides of the setting Sun's image many seconds before the final sunset and the regular green flash. There is also a hint of a blue flash -- a rarer phenomenon which requires exceptionally clear air, and which I had never seen or photographed before. The frames in this sequence are closely cropped out of much larger images, one of which can be seen here. |
Technical Details:Made from six frames taken using Nikon D3200 camera with 70-300mm zoom lens at 300mm. Closely cropped in from the full frame, and contrast and hue adjusted so the individual images would match. This picture accurately represents the visual appearance of the scene through binoculars, except that the Sun was too bright to look at in the early frames. |
