An amazing moment I was privileged to capture. Carefully cared for through her larval stage in brood cell of the hive, a newly mature worker bee emerges into the air for the first time. The emerging bee targeted in the picture is slightly above-center, but another newborn worker is just beginning to break out below her: its head and one antenna can be seen two cells to the lower left. This hive was owned and maintained by my youngest brother Dar and his wife Michelle. |
